Summer Transfer Dealings

Hi Folks

I've had a nice break and great to see the site still going... didn't know it was in doubt 'till I signed in a couple of days back !! Glad we've survived - this is without doubt the best Millers site and members (in my opinion)

Anyways, thought I'd start a thread specifically to discuss ins and outs prior to next season...

Happy with our first signing.. also happy that we have not pushed the boat out to get Towell... I think he was a Warne favourite, and whilst he was genuine and good, I did not want us to see us wasting good money to get him when we have the excellent Crookes and promising Wiles...

I wish Scotty and the team good luck (they can't do worse can they ?) in our transfer dealings...

Please post any firm rumours or transfer thoughts here...

UTM

Morning all. The forecast predicts a lovely morning for a daybreak round of golf. It is widely reported that Nouha Dicko is surplus to requirements at Hull where he was used sparingly as a sub last season and is under contract until August 2020.  Hull will listen to sensible offers to buy the player or take him on a season long loan. He is, according to my admittedly unreliable source, one of the former Millers that we are due to speak to next week. He wouldn't have to uproot and could reboot his career in league one with us. Still only 27 years old and the type of striker that we don't have on the staff currently. There is a certain amount of sense in it all round.  In my opinion that would be a signing to get very excited about. All rumours of course.

Way we set up Dicko no. We can't play 4-4-2. A proper right winger needed. We know we need wingers at least. Keeper, right back also. Wait while Vaulks & Ajayi leave then we can fill in the gaps with more money added to the budget. We are still going to need 3 in midfield. Can't take league 1 for granted.

Grant Ward seems to gaining strength I have no idea how much truth there is about it I think it could be a maybe if Dicko was also signed could get exited a bit for the coming season the only thing is it looks like Rotherham old boys reunion but it would make out forward line a bit more stronger than last season when you add Smith and Morris into that equation. My only reservation is the fitness of some of these player.

No to Dicko & Adeyemi. Yes to Grant Ward if he proves his fitness.

Dicko would be a fantastic signing in my opinion... if he's retained 25% of his ability he showed here before he'd be awesome upsides or just behind Smith (assuming we keep Smith)...

If Dicko has retained enough of his ability we won't get him. He's had an injury so that would be the only reason we would get him. I'd stay clear. If Smith stays we have Vassell & Morris forwards. That's more than we had in the championship, Vassell was injured the majority of last season.

Who knows how we will set up this season? Last time we were in league one we got promoted and played 442 many times with success, including at Wembley. We were able to change from game to game. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a look at going 352 which sheff utd play to good effect as Warne has expressed his admiration for that style of play and we might have the personnel suited to it. Smith, Proctor, Morris and Vassell are all big physical forwards. Having a David Ball type (although it obviously won't be him) or a smaller, quicker striker or an out-and-out finisher would give us options. Dicko would be a real handful in league one.

Of course we can play 442 in L1. Dicko would be a top signing but can't see it happening, one of the most exciting strikers we have had recently and knows where the net is. Could play him and one of the other two.

Dicko would be a massive gamble in my opinion. In Div 1 in 2013/14 he scored 13 times in 19 games. In 2014/15 he scored 14 times in 37 appearances in the championship. His career has gone backwards since then. He had a knee ligament injury in 2015 which kept him out for 13 months. Since then he has scored 3 times in 30 appearances in the championship in 2016/17 and 1 goal in 5 appearances for wolves in 2017/18 . He then moved to Hull 2017/18 played 29 times scoring only 4 times. In 2018/19 for Hull he played 16 times scoring only twice.
He looks like he is nowhere near the Dicko of 2013 and as the case with many players who have a bad knee injury their sharpness goes. For me i would resist signing him

Ward and Adeyemi would be huge gambles fitness wise. I’d sooner have Ward if it came to it but I’d also hope our new recruitment team would be a bit more inventive with the players we are looking to bring in.

whiston01 read my posts. No way Dicko or Adeyemi. Possible Grant Ward. Waiting to hear on Forde & Newell. Me if I had to keep one would be Forde but only on a years contract. If we go up be in the same boat not good enough for the championship.

From what i hear Grant Ward has a potential career finishing injury. Dicko would have to take a wage drop of around 60% plus his injury has had a real impact on his pace.

... and now linked with Jordan Lyden... another injury prone lad.. I would have thought that is one lesson we'd have learned enough by now... :(

Donny are welcome to Newell. Can't see point in keeping Fotde either, least talented of all last seasons wingers.

Even a dumpling like me can work out Forde will sign another contract get the bunting out gwru I am more interested in who we are going to sign love us to have a few decent players coming so we can look forward to the new season I think we need a change after the last season never went to a league game thinking we are going to win today. We need to get confidence back would be nice if we were to do very well and get the attendances up.
