On yesterday, retained list.

Yesterday, it didn't matter but doesn't work with Crooks & Wiles in midfield. Crooks? Next season get two midfield players in the engine room, give Wiles his head. Not Potter, he's wants the game at walking pace. Wingers 1st half were same as usual, no threat. Better when Williams came on, he needs a run in the side not played much for a few months. Vassell looked better when he came on but be same in League 1 we can't play 2 up front. To play 4-4-2 you need better players than we've got.

Retained list. All the loans can go back. All our players out on loan don't want any back. Potter Forde Newell Bray Manny to be released. Palmer Yates ship out. Might have missed some players out.

I reckon most of the players mentioned in your opening post, gwru, would be more effective in League 1 resulting in a better success rate than we have seen in the Championship this past season. As Exetermiller has posted a few times now, he must be going blue in the face, and I quote part of one of his recent posts
'4-2-3-1 is a label - it is THE most dynamic formation in football and is most relevant to todays game style and how the players have been brought up through the academies (grassroots teams even do it, mine included). 4-4-2 stays 4-4-2. 4-2-3-1 constantly changes to 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 or 4-2-4 or 4-1-4-1.

It is not about '1 up front' its about having players in the 3 that are dynamic enough to change with it. We dont and the last player we did was Frecks who we have never replaced'.

I say that there is someone missing from Warney's backroom staff, someone who can advise more about the technical/tactical aspects of the game? It's all well and good having a recruitment team. However, once a squad has been assembled it's what to do next. Setting the players up to win matches and how to change formation during in game play and being able to introduce one  or two impact players from the bench when required.

 Someone like Warnock.

Then there's the question about availability and most importantly affordability of such a qualified and experienced practitioner. The club may say that there is no need for such an addition to the backroom staff. Moreover, what is TS's vision for the club in the next 5 to 10 years?  Have there been any discussions around setting up and establishing a  youth academy?

Affordability is the question. Apparently we couldn't get players in the January window cause quality we needed was above our budget so can't see us paying for an adviser. Sooner have the manager to be up to running the football side of the club. People are saying we need a defensive coach, same again we don't need an increase in the no. of coaches need coaches who can between them coach all aspects of the different units.

Does anyone think it's an unhealthy situation at the club were by doesn't matter how you dress it up we've failed this season but nobody's answerable. If you know you are still going to be in a job no matter what where's the incentive there to be successful in that job. It's not totally Warney's fault, he can only work to the budget he's got but we are relegated but whose fault is it. What was the point of going up not to give it our best shot of staying in the championship. If we get in the play-offs next season some people will be thinking why bother if you are only going to go up for 1 season.

I think Potter and Wiles and Crooks will all have a place in our squad next season. Crooks for the engine and the other two who can play with both feet and run a midfield (Wiles is developing). If you think Warne should be fired then you are deluded given the fact that we only just lost out on staying in this league and the previous time we literally fell out of it. We have no money, or none we are prepared to invest but we do have a cracking stadium and a good chance at league 1 to look forward too.

Don't agree. Crooks or Wiles. Not together. Crooks doesn't have the presence of Vaulks. Wiles could be his proper breakthrough next season. Don't want Potter, look back to when he joined us. Our midfield in league 1 with him & Frecks was going nowhere. He's two years older, injury prone. We have already wasted contracts on Wood & Proctor. Got to be more business like.

Have we become a club that's JAM? Just About Managing? Hand to mouth survival? That smacks too much of being impoverished. We need to expand commercially. Look at the potential for retail units on each corner of the North Stand. Still empty, and wasted spaces. Is there a business plan in place? Most businesses have a plan in place. Unless our club has an agenda which it chooses not to share with its stakeholders? The club needs to get people on board not just by hoping to sell more season tickets and leave it to chance that they will succeed in that department as someone on another thread has already pointed out that there needs to be more income streams to help a club to survive in the EFL.

Many stakeholders jumped on board in 2008 when we moved over to Don Valley after TS showed us the vision of a new stadium to be built back in Rotherham. I was one of the many who bought into the vision of a brighter future for the club. That dream came true but it shouldn't end there.
It's now time for the club to shake matters up in the operations room. Read into that what you will. But just for a bit of clarity I reckon at least one person other than TS needs to ask themselves if they are suitably qualified to move the club forward into the 2020's.

Thought yesterday was a typical Warney performance Lewis did nothing wrong Potter looked like a footballer as soon as he came on improved the side if he can prove his fitness give him a 1 year contract We have got to get the recruitment right last season it was pathetic that team will struggle in div1 hope if we get decent money for Vaulks and Ajah we spend it wisely this league we are going into is not that great I want to see some action on the pitch winning a few games did not stop at the end do not understand a lap of honour for failure.

The reason i like reading gwru's comments is because he isn't afraid to air his views. A lot of what he is saying is not far off the mark either.
Totally agree with him about Potter. Ok he came on yesterday for half an hour and did reasonably well. What about the previous eighteen months. An old age pensioner in footballing years and an injury prone one who is slow. No thanks. Crooks and Wiles will feature for us next season and hopefully will improve as they play together. I can see both doing well in div 1.
I also agree with gwru about the loan players. Rodak is wanted at Fulham and the rest i would pass on. Palmer and Yates are not going to feature so look at moving them on.
The out of contract players is where Warne has a difficult job. I would offer Mattock a new contract but would also fetch Purrington back. He has had experience in Div 1 and appears comfortable in it. The four wingers!!! Again i agree with gwru when he said earlier that Forde and Newell hardly advanced their causes yesterday. However i also believe Williams flatters to deceive. He has played 24 times this year and contributed 2 assists and one goal. Not as good as Forde or Newell. Taylor is another one who has only had one assist but can score. Lamy looks like he will sign for us as a right sided winger. I would keep Newell on a one year contract if the management team believe he can be got/kept fit. I am beginning to favour Taylor over Forde which i didn't a week ago but i have no real strong feelings. Players like Onarise, Bray, Two Balls will definitely go.
I have a feeling we might sign a Wednesday goalkeeper on loan if they keep Westwood. If that does happen the two year contract for Price is baffling. Vaulks and Ajayi to go for money. Re invest it in a striker a centre midfielder and a left winger. Get Smallwood on loan or permanent and we are ready to go. Give Warney the chance and i think he will go very close to getting us back up at the first attempt. All this BS about Warnock and others. They didn't fancy it and Warnock used three years of luck in four months keeping us up. BTW he only showed up on a Friday if there was no midweek games. It was his sidekick who did all the coaching and very good he was too.

whiston01 don't want Smallwood. He'd be ok for league 1 but not for the championship. He'd want a longer contract. If we are going to give a longer contract to a 1st team player want it to be someone who can play in the championship.

Onarise bray purrington were bought for the future wasn't they so let's judge next season. Williams is a league 1 player so keep.him Newell when he plays he can be good and league one is his standard keep Forde can go Taylor aka forest Gump.undecided Yates can go like both balls as Warne can't coach dom ball doesn't buy into.his style Vyner would like to sign him as centre back Out of the squad we need Gk Rb Centre half Rm An attacking midfielder if towell doesn't sign 2 x strikers 3 if Smith leaves At least

Whiston. I wasn't proposing Warnock at all, just suggesting someone of his ilk in response to what I thought was a valid point from Wotsisname. So no BS from me thank you.

My midfield for next season would be based around Potter, Wiles and Crooks. Potter - most talented footballer at the club and a great role model for Wiles and Crooks' development. Wiles keeps improving and Crooks' has the strength and composure, together with a constant desire to move forward. I'd give Newell another chance in League One where he performed well previously. However, he's definitely not Championship standard. Smith and Vassell will be a handful for L1 defences but we need more options up front. I'd be surprised if we got big money for Semi - he's been indifferent for weeks. Vaulks is more attractive due to his international credentials. Hopefully we'll keep yesterday's back four and get in a new number one keeper.

Good post about potter Agree vasell and Smith will be a handful. With proctors availability and reliability unknown this is unfortunate for both player and club. 2 seasons and only played a half in total if that.

gwru where do you get your information from? In no interview or press article has the club said the players we looked at in January were outside our budget, if you have such an article please share the link.

In fact TS was adamant that budget was not a blocker for us adding to the squad saying he has never said no to the manager on a player. So are you accusing TS of lying to us?

You constantly play the we have no money card, no money for players, no money for coaches it could be that the club is deciding to pay the owners back money they have put into the club in the last 10 years. It isn't about not have money it is about deciding where the money is spent. I do not believe the club is skint I believe it is tightly managed, with a risk averse strategy due to previous over spending under Evans and others.

Also your comments on Potter are misguided, a player like Potter is exactly what we need in league 1. he has experience, is calm on the ball, plays the link role in midfield allowing us to move the ball side to side quickly and with more accuracy. He can help with the two excellent young prospects we have in Crookes and Wiles. Having him around the dressing room and there in the squad makes perfect sense.

Our gaps are simple, experienced coach, cover at FB's, pace up front/wing, a goal poacher, an experienced goalkeeper. It is very likely that vaulks and ajayi leave and you cannot blame them, the real test for me for TS is do we openly make all that money available to bring in quality to fill the gaps or use it to pay the owners debts.

Derbymiller Warney said in January think it was a striker we were after wanted £19,000 a week in wages so that's double what we would have paid. Wouldn't say we have no money as a club but we haven't got money to throw away on advisors or extra coaches meaning in football not buses. Regards Potter if Warney gives him another contract he's not a manager. That 1st season in league 1 he played our midfield only improved when he got injured. He's 35 soon two years older, waste of a contract. We've got to stop wasting contracts on no-hopers, has-beens & injured players. It all adds up, could be wages for a player some use to us.

Potter started ok in Div 1 but we were sinking quicker than the Titanic. I think we were just below halfway when he got injured. We do need a midfield player who can get on the ball , calm it down and allow us to move the ball quicker and to feet. I have seen very little evidence that he is the man, apart from the odd flashes. He's had 18 months watching games. At 35 in December he is too big a risk.

Well what a season, glad its over, but here is my two penneth

Lets start with the management team: Warne was always going to struggle, the experience of this season will have made him battle hardened for the LG1 promotion campaign (he said it himself on Sunday), he gave it his all, and we have a manager that the board trusts and has RUFC is his DNA., he brings a positive feel to club even if we did lose more than what we won

But the most galling stat of the season is that we have lost 37 points from winning positions !!!! now i am no coach but the one thing we need to do is tighten up at the back, set pieces etc.

If we had these points in the bag we would have had the playoff semi finals to look forward too, again on the flip side, this could have indeed attracted the investors that TS is looking for, as our push towards TS's dream of the premier league could so nearly have been realised, instead its LG1 for next season.

He is a savvy businessman, so not to buy a striker & CB in January is criminal, we could have been up there or at least mid table and not relegated.

So onto my retained list.

Ajayi will probably go to Norwich, but i can't see him in the PL, but i think he may go to another championship club, and thats why his form has lapsed(he doesn't want to get injured) the same with Vaulks, but i thought on Saturday we didn't miss Vaulks at all.

Crooks for me is a good player, always looking to go forward and plays a good pass, albeit some of our team cant see it.

So on my list to keep:

Crooks, Mattock, Williams, Smith, Vassell, Wiles, Robertson, Jones, Ihiekwe,Vassell, Proctor, Potter, Price

Get rid of Taylor, Forde, Palmer, Yates, Wood.

GK and CB are key areas to fill, and hopefully not with loans.

Onwards and upwards, the fixtures for next season will be out in June, so not long to wait.

But you've forgotten the two Balls. Another contributor to this site likewise forgot about the Balls. Do we keep them or offload them? I don't think that either of the Balls would improve our chances next season.
